Drainage System

The Laconia DPW is responsible for maintenance, repair, installation and replacement of the City's storm drainage system. The storm drain system is made up of underground pipe of varying size, catch basin structures, and roadside ditches. Driveway culverts are typically the responsibility of the private owner that the driveway serves.

Recent attention has been given to the treatment of the City's storm drainage before it enters into our lakes, streams and rivers. Private developments are often required to install treatment structures that separate out sediment, trash and oils, before storm water is released into water bodies. The City of Laconia has recently installed treatment structures on Elm Street near Opechee Lake, and at Massachusetts Ave. near Paugus Bay.
